Crafting is a F2P skill in Old School RuneScape. While members can enjoy more varied and profitable methods, crafting training OSRS is still efficient for F2P players. For ironmen, however, crafting can feel especially grindy due to the need to gather materials, making it a tougher skill to train for F2P ironmen.
OSRS Crafting F2P Training
F2P players can train Crafting by making leather armor and pottery, though these options are either costly or slow. However, training Crafting by making gold and silver jewelry is an excellent way to profit while gaining levels.
OSRS Best F2P Method for Crafting
A reliable training method involves obtaining jewelry moulds, gold bars, cut gems (e.g., sapphire and diamonds), and a great deal of patience. Head to the Edgeville furnace, which is conveniently close to a bank. Here, you can make 13 pieces per inventory, except for pure gold items, which allow 27. Stock up on your supplies in advance to minimize trips to the Grand Exchange.
- Levels 1 to 20: Start by crafting leather gloves to reach level 5, then make 8 gold rings and 15 gold necklaces to level 8. From level 8 onward, craft gold amulets until level 20.
- Levels 20 to 40: Craft 29 sapphire rings, 26 sapphire necklaces, 120 sapphire amulets, and then 320 emerald amulets to reach level 40.
- Levels 40 to 70: Produce 175 ruby necklaces, 600 diamond rings, 973 ruby amulets, and 6151 diamond necklaces to reach level 70.
- Levels 70 to 99: From level 70 to 99, focus on crafting diamond amulets. This will require crafting over 100,000 amulets, yielding around 4 million GP in profit.

General Training Methods for OSRS Crafting
Craft Leather Items
Crafting leather items is a quick way to level from 1 to 20. You’ll need leather, a needle, and thread. Withdraw the leather, craft the items, deposit the finished goods, and repeat the process.
D’hide Bodies
This method is similar to crafting leather items but uses dragon leather for faster XP. It becomes viable at level 63, though it’s not profitable. If you have the necessary GP, you can use this method all the way to level 99.
Cutting Gems
A faster method involves cutting gems with a chisel. You can process 27 gems per inventory:
- Level 20: Sapphire
- Level 27: Emerald
- Level 34: Ruby
- Level 43: Diamond
- Level 55: Dragonstone
While fast, this method is not profitable and will result in a loss of GP.
Molten Glass
This is an ironman-friendly method as the materials for molten glass—buckets of sand and seaweed—are easy to obtain in bulk. Ironmen can make molten glass and then use a glassblowing pipe to craft various objects, gaining XP. For regular players, this method becomes profitable at level 46 when making unpowered orbs.
Cutting Amethyst
If you’ve reached level 91 Mining, crafting amethyst can be a profitable training method. Amethyst products are stackable, eliminating the need for banking. Train Crafting by making the following:
- Level 83: Amethyst bolt tips
- Level 85: Amethyst arrow tips
- Level 87: Amethyst javelin heads
- Level 89: Amethyst dart tips
Shades of Mort'ton Minigame
This AFK training method involves building the temple in the Shades of Mort'ton minigame. You’ll need supplies such as a Flamtear bag, hammer, bracelet, timber beam, limestone bricks, and swamp paste. XP gain is slow, but the method can be profitable.
Cutting Semi-precious Gems
Cutting semi-precious gems becomes profitable at higher levels:
- Level 7: Jade
- Level 35: Opal
- Level 77: Red Topaz
At higher levels, the likelihood of failure decreases, allowing for better profits.
Questing
Questing is another way to gain Crafting XP, with 33 quests offering XP rewards. This is especially useful for reaching specific levels required for advanced training methods:
- Sheep Shearer
- Goblin Diplomacy
- Tower of Life
- In Search of the Myreque
- Misthalin Mystery
- Dwarf Cannon
- Animal Magnetism
- The Golem
- Making History
- Tears of Guthix
- Recipe for Disaster (Goblin generals subquest)
- Recipe for Disaster (Pirate Pete subquest)
- Murder Mystery
- Recipe for Disaster (Skrach Uglogwee subquest)
- Cold War
- Enlightened Journey
- In Aid of the Myreque
- Shades of Mort'ton
- Observatory Quest
- The Giant Dwarf
- The Fremennik Trials
- The Great Brain Robbery
- Nature Spirit
- The Slug Menace

Conclusion
Crafting is a versatile and rewarding skill in Old School RuneScape, whether you’re a F2P player or a member. While training crafting can be time-intensive, having the right resources can make the process much smoother and more enjoyable. If you’re looking to speed up your progress, purchasing OSRS gold is an excellent way to afford the necessary materials and maximize your training efficiency.
