How to Unlock The Weapon’s Refrain (Ultimate)

To access The Weapon's Refrain, often abbreviated as UWU (short for Ultima Weapon (Ultimate)), you’ll need to complete Sigmascape V4.0 (Savage)—a raid requiring an item level of 350 or higher. Once you've cleared this challenge, travel to Kugane and speak with the Wandering Minstrel to unlock the Ultimate fight.

UWU was introduced in Patch 4.31: Under the Moonlight during the Stormblood expansion. The duty features a single, continuous encounter where players battle the original three primals—Garuda, Ifrit, and Titan—followed by Lahabrea and finally the Ultima Weapon, which cycles through the primals once more.

These primal phases have a twist. Players must deliberately perform some mechanics “incorrectly” to trigger each primal’s Awoken form. Failing to do so allows the fight to proceed, but the group will not survive the upcoming phase transition.
