In Diablo 4, the Vessel of Hatred DLC introduces a new currency called Pale Marks, specifically tied to the game's Mercenary system. These marks become available as players enhance their Mercenary companions, rewarding them with Pale Marks as they level up Mercenaries.
Mercenaries are more than just companions for solo gameplay; they’re essential allies who can help you acquire powerful Legendary gear and Mercenary loot caches via the Pale Marks they bring. While the exact sources of Pale Marks are not immediately clear in the game, players can gather this currency in several ways, making it accessible for those willing to put in the effort.
The game’s loot system presents challenges for those hunting specific equipment. Take, for example, the Shroud of False Death. This unique chest armor has become highly sought after for its exceptional properties. However, due to its rarity and uncertain drop mechanism, acquiring it may require patience and strategy.
To help players increase their chances of obtaining the Shroud of False Death, here are three strategies. Your best approach will depend largely on your luck and resources. Additionally, beyond daily quests and activities, some players might consider using Diablo 4 Gold to expedite the process.
Improving your rapport with Mercenaries is one of the primary ways to earn Pale Marks. Every time you level up with a Mercenary, you’ll typically receive 100-200 Pale Marks. These can be redeemed at Fayira’s shop in Den, where you can purchase Legendary gear and loot caches.
Once you’ve reached maximum rapport with a Mercenary, all additional XP gained from that Mercenary will convert to 200 Pale Marks, allowing for continuous accumulation even after reaching the highest level of rapport. This system applies to all Mercenaries, so you can earn Pale Marks indefinitely as long as you keep gaining experience.
Note: Pale Marks are account-bound, allowing players to use them across multiple characters.
While the use of Pale Marks is somewhat limited, they can be redeemed through Fayira’s shop in Den. Pale Marks allow players to acquire various items, including Mercenary caches that unlock as Mercenary rapport increases. At rapport levels 5 and 8, characters unlock two barter upgrades.
If the shop doesn’t have what you’re looking for, you have a daily free re-roll option, with each additional re-roll costing 50 Pale Marks. Items in Fayira’s shop usually cost between 20-50 Pale Marks, while certain aspect caches may be slightly more expensive.
All classes can equip the Shroud of False Death, a unique mythic chest armor known for its outstanding attributes and unique effects. This armor grants bonuses to all passive skills (+1), increases all stats by 160, and boosts max life by 800, greatly enhancing the wearer’s battle prowess.
The Shroud also provides an advantage by increasing the damage of your next attack by 333% whenever you enter an invisible state—an invaluable asset for any class. Additionally, the armor includes a resource generation boost of +11.1%.
One of the most distinctive aspects of the Shroud of False Death is its effect that activates invisibility and increases movement speed by 40% if you don’t deal damage for two seconds. This bonus allows players to evade enemy attacks more effectively and take advantage of the additional damage effect upon becoming invisible.
Here are three primary ways to get the Shroud of False Death:
Craft It at the Blacksmith To craft the Shroud of False Death, you’ll need specific crafting materials: 6 Bac Runes, 6 Moni Runes, 6 Kry Runes, and 2 Resplendent Sparks. You can acquire these materials by exploring and completing the Kurast Undercity endgame content, where these runes often drop. Additionally, facing Uber bosses is another effective method, as these formidable enemies frequently drop rare runes and valuable equipment.
As for Resplendent Sparks, these can be obtained through seasonal challenges or by defeating Uber bosses. Seasonal journeys present additional challenges and rewards, including Resplendent Sparks.
Farm Boss Drops You can also try farming specific bosses for a chance at the Shroud of False Death. Recommended bosses include:
Although the drop rate from these bosses isn’t guaranteed to be high, they provide a consistent way to farm for the Shroud, especially if you’re prepared for a potentially lengthy grind. For Spiritborn and other classes, this armor is a powerful addition to any build, so persistent boss farming could be worth the effort.
Gamble at the Purveyor of Curiosities Another way to obtain the Shroud of False Death is through the Purveyor of Curiosities. By gambling for mythic unique items, you may eventually find this legendary armor.
This guide aims to help players eager to acquire these two sought-after items. Remember, persistence and strategy will enhance your chances, so keep exploring the game's various avenues to reach your goals. Good luck in your adventures!
