Elden Ring: How To Complete Sellen Questline
Sellen's questline is one of the most intriguing and lore-rich stories in Elden Ring. The Sellen questline takes players on a journey through magical secrets, legendary sorceries, and intense choices that impact the world. Sellen herself is one of the most fascinating NPCs in the game, with a mysterious past and powerful ambitions.
Sellen's First Location
Sellen's first location is in the Waypoint Ruins Cellar within Limgrave.
To begin the Sellen questline, you should visit her as soon as possible when starting the game. Initiating a conversation with her will not unlock much at first, except for an apprenticeship. This step is essential to set the quest in motion, even if there is nothing else to do for now.
Azur's Location
The next step in the Sellen questline happens much later. You need to travel to a specific location to find Primeval Sorcerer Azur.
Upon meeting Azur, you will receive the legendary Comet Azur spell. After acquiring this spell, return to Sellen, which will trigger new dialogue options and advance the quest.
Conversation With Sellen
At this point, you can inform Sellen about Azur. She will respond by telling you more about her past and giving you the Sellian Sealbreaker.
Continue speaking with her until she provides a lead on Lusat’s whereabouts. This will direct you to the Sellia Hideaway in Caelid, where you must navigate through the dungeon to locate Lusat.
Lusat's Location
Deep within Sellia Hideaway, you will find Lusat sitting on a cluster of crystals. Interacting with him will grant you the Stars of Ruin sorcery—another legendary spell.
Return To Sellen
Once you have found Lusat, return to Sellen and inform her of his location. She will be relieved, but in order to progress the Sellen questline, you must now defeat General Radahn.
Defeat Radahn
If you have already defeated Radahn, you can proceed to the next step. If not, you will need to take on the Festival of Combat at Redmane Castle and defeat the powerful demi-god.
Sellen's Favor
After Radahn’s defeat, return to Sellen, who remains in her usual place. She will now ask a favor of you—travel to the Witchbane Ruins to find her real body.
At this point, it is revealed that the Sellen you have been speaking to is merely a projection, while her real body remains imprisoned.
Witchbane Ruins
Travel to the Witchbane Ruins in Weeping Peninsula. Once there, head underground and find Sellen's actual body, bound in shackles.
Initiate a conversation with her, and she will give you the Primal Glintstone, a crucial item in the Sellen questline.
Talk To Jerren
Now, the quest takes an interesting turn by involving Witch-Hunter Jerren.
Return to Redmane Castle, where you originally fought Radahn. Jerren will now be seated on the throne. Speak to him and exhaust his dialogue, where he mentions that his duty is done and he has unfinished business.
Next, return to the Witchbane Ruins. Jerren will be standing before Sellen’s body, contemplating her fate. Exhaust all his dialogue, and he will express suspicion that Sellen is still alive somewhere.
Kill Loretta In Carian Manor
To progress further, advance through the game until you reach Carian Manor in Liurnia of the Lakes.
Defeat Royal Knight Loretta at the end of the manor. Doing so will grant access to the Three Sisters area, where you will locate Sellen’s true body.
Find Sellen’s Real Body
In this new location, look for an illusionary wall. Behind it, you will find Sellen’s real body.
Interact with the body and place the Primal Glintstone into it. Exhaust all dialogue with her, and she will declare her intention to revive the primeval current of magic at Raya Lucaria Academy.
Head To Raya Lucaria Academy
Now, make your way back to the Raya Lucaria Grand Library, where Rennala resides.
At this point in the Sellen questline, you are presented with two crucial choices:
- Summon Jerren to fight and kill Sellen.
- Help Sellen and fight against Jerren.
Fight Jerren
For this guide, we choose to help Sellen.
Summoning into Sellen’s world, you will assist her in a battle against Jerren within Rennala’s former chamber. Upon defeating Jerren, return to your world and claim the Eccentric’s Hood armor set as a reward.
Final Conversation With Sellen
Speak to Sellen once more. She will express her gratitude and share her ambitions to take over the academy.
Sellen promises that when you become Elden Lord, Raya Lucaria Academy will swear allegiance to you. She also rewards you with the Glintstone Kris dagger, and you can now purchase Shard Spiral sorcery from her inventory.
Rest At Grace & Collect Rewards
Resting at the Site of Grace will reveal a chilling transformation—Sellen is now a twisted clump of heads, the result of her own magical experiments.
Near her remains, pick up Sellen’s Crown as a final reward.
Pick Up Armor Sets
There are two more armor sets you can now claim:
- Travel to Primeval Sorcerer Azur’s location on Mt. Gelmir to obtain his armor set.
- Return to Sellia Hideaway where Lusat was found and claim his armor set as well.
What Happens If You Help Jerren
If you chose to side with Jerren and kill Sellen instead, simply exit Rennala’s chamber after the battle. Jerren will be standing outside, leaning against his sword.
This alternative choice brings the Sellen questline to a tragic end, where her ambitions are permanently crushed.
The Sellen questline is one of Elden Ring’s most rewarding and tragic side quests. Whether you choose to aid or betray her, it offers powerful sorceries, unique rewards, and a captivating look into the game’s mystical lore.
Conclusion
The Sellen questline is one of Elden Ring’s most captivating side quests, filled with intense battles, powerful sorceries, and a fascinating narrative. Whether you choose to aid Sellen in her ambitions or side with Jerren, this questline offers some of the best rewards in the game.
