Elden Ring Millicent Quest Guide
Even experienced FromSoftware players may find themselves puzzled by some of Elden Ring’s early quests, as they are intentionally cryptic with unexpected twists and vague clues. Among these, the Millicent quest can be particularly tough, as it begins in the perilous Caelid region. If you’ve been struggling with this questline, don’t worry—we’ve got you covered with a complete walkthrough from start to finish.
Find and speak with Gowry
To begin the Millicent quest, you must first speak with an elderly man named Gowry, who resides in a shack in eastern Caelid, along the road leading to Sellia, Town of Sorcery. Talk to him about the Unalloyed Gold Needle he seeks, then prepare to retrieve it from the nearby swamp.
Defeat Commander O'Neil
The Unalloyed Gold Needle is obtained by defeating Commander O'Neil, a boss located in the swamp just west of Gowry’s shack. This battle can be quite difficult, so be sure to use effective tactics to bring him down. Once victorious, collect the needle and return to Gowry.
Visit Gowry twice
Speak with Gowry and exhaust his dialogue, then fast travel to the nearest Site of Grace and return to him. He will hand over the repaired needle and provide insights into the secrets of Sellia, Town of Sorcery. Your next destination is the Church of the Plague, where you’ll meet Millicent and officially begin her questline.
Go back to Gowry's Shack yet again
Upon returning to Gowry’s Shack, you’ll find Millicent there. Speak to her and exhaust her dialogue, then fast travel away and return to see that Gowry has come back. After speaking with him, you will have finished the Caelid portion of Millicent’s storyline.
Find the Valkyrie's Prosthesis at the Shaded Castle
The next step requires visiting the Shaded Castle, located north between Mt. Gelmir and Altus Plateau. Fight your way through until you discover a small room guarded by a Cleanrot Knight. Inside, you’ll find the Valkyrie’s Prosthesis, which is necessary to advance Millicent’s storyline in Altus Plateau.
Speak with Millicent in Altus Plateau
Travel to the Erdtree-Gazing Hill Site of Grace in Altus Plateau, where Millicent will be standing just north of your spawn point. Give her the Valkyrie’s Prosthesis and exhaust her dialogue. You’ll then need to travel further north to face another boss and continue the Millicent quest.
Go to the Windmill Village and defeat the Godskin Apostle
In northern Altus Plateau lies the Windmill Village, a sinister area populated by eerie enemies. At the top, you’ll encounter the Godskin Apostle, a formidable opponent, particularly for lower-level characters. However, once you memorize his attack patterns, the fight becomes more manageable.
Speak to Millicent in the Mountaintops of the Giants
Later in the game, after gaining access to the Mountaintops of the Giants, you’ll find Millicent near the Snow Valley Ruins Site of Grace. Exhaust her dialogue and prepare to obtain the two halves of the Haligtree Medallion, which are required to reach the Haligtree area.
Find both halves of the Haligtree Medallion
The first half of the Haligtree Medallion is found atop Castle Sol, which requires defeating Commander Niall in the northeast Mountaintops of the Giants. The second half is acquired in the Village of Albinaurics in southern Liurnia of the Lakes—hit a disguised pot to reveal an old man who will give you the missing piece.
Head to the Haligtree
With both halves of the medallion, use the Grand Lift of Rold to descend into a new, frigid section of the biome. Head north to solve a straightforward puzzle at Ordina, Liturgical Town (similar to Sellia’s puzzle) to access the Haligtree.
Speak to Millicent at the Prayer Room Site of Grace
As you progress through the Haligtree, you’ll reach the Prayer Room Site of Grace, where Millicent awaits. Speak with her and exhaust all dialogue before continuing.
Defeat the Ulcerated Tree Spirit near the Drainage Channel Site of Grace
Further into the Haligtree, you’ll face the Ulcerated Tree Spirit. This boss is particularly frustrating due to the Scarlet Rot-inflicting pond it resides in. Try to engage from range if possible. Once defeated, rest at the Drainage Channel Site of Grace.
Go back to where you killed the Ulcerated Tree Spirit
Return to the spot where you fought the Ulcerated Tree Spirit to find two summon signs: a yellow one to aid Millicent in battle against invaders and a red one to fight her instead.
Choosing the red sign grants you the Millicent’s Prosthesis talisman, boosting Dexterity and successive attack power. However, most players opt for the yellow summon sign to help her fend off an ambush.
Kill the invaders
If you assist Millicent, you’ll face four powerful NPC invaders. While it may seem tempting to let her handle some, she can die quickly, so provide as much support as possible. Defeating the invaders rewards you with the Rotten Winged Sword Insignia talisman, which enhances attack power with successive hits.
Return to Millicent twice to wrap up the quest
After exiting Millicent’s world, rest at the Drainage Channel Site of Grace and return to where you fought the invaders. Millicent will be there—speak with her and then rest again. On your final visit, you’ll find her dead, allowing you to loot the Unalloyed Gold Needle.
Conclusion
The Millicent quest is one of the most intricate and rewarding questlines in Elden Ring, providing significant lore insights and powerful rewards.
