In this guide, we’ll go over all the various activities players can pursue to farm EVE ISK. ISK is the main in-game currency of EVE Online, used for buying Battleships, equipment, PLEX, or even Skill Points themselves. Since practically everything can be purchased with ISK, earning EVE ISK is arguably the most critical and exciting part of the game.
As a new player in EVE Online, you’re probably asking yourself how to start making decent income to upgrade to stronger ships and really enjoy what the game has to offer. There are countless interesting activities in EVE Online, and nearly all of them can be profitable if done correctly.
The first section of this article highlights the most accessible EVE ISK farming methods available even for beginners. These are mostly solo-friendly, lower risk activities, not necessarily the highest-paying, but a great way to climb the ladder steadily.

Mining is often the very first method players try when earning EVE ISK. All you need is Mining skill trained to level I, which allows you to fit any Frigate with a Miner I module. Simply head to an Asteroid belt and start extracting ore. The ore goes into your cargo hold (or other ore-specific containers). Mining is one of the easiest, safest, and admittedly dull ways of farming EVE ISK. On the plus side, it can often be done semi-afk in high-security space.
Mining falls into three main categories:
For a more advanced option, players can learn to enter Wormholes safely, where valuable asteroids in gravimetric sites provide higher returns. This, however, carries additional risk as you’ll be in null-security space.

Missions in EVE are comparable to quests in other MMORPGs. You need to find an Agent and complete assignments for their corporation. Agents are ranked from level 1 to 5. With strong standings, level 4 missions in high-sec can yield around 20M ISK/hour. The general approach is to stick with one corporation, build standings quickly, and aim for level 4 as soon as you can. Lower-level missions are less profitable, so skip unnecessary salvaging to speed up progress.
Be mindful that raising standings with one faction lowers them with its rivals. The top ships for missions are Marauders, but since they’re expensive and skill-intensive, alternative options include: Abaddon (Amarr), Raven (Caldari), Dominix (Gallente), or Typhoon (Minmatar). For maximum EVE ISK per hour, consider “Blitzing” missions—only complete objectives and skip everything else.

Planetary Interaction (PI) is a steady and reliable way to earn EVE ISK. By setting up colonies on planets, you can extract and process resources. This requires purchasing Command Centers (different ones for different planet types). Once a colony is active, you just check in occasionally to collect goods, while spending your main playtime however you want. That low-maintenance nature makes PI attractive to many players.
Projected income:
Trading is one of the most engaging and potentially lucrative ways of generating EVE ISK. The concept is simple—buy low, sell high—but it demands upfront capital, knowledge of the market, and patience. Station trading, the most basic version, involves setting buy orders for high-demand items in one station and reselling them higher. Hauling goods between stations where prices differ is also profitable. The pinnacle of trading is market manipulation, but that requires massive ISK reserves and carries serious risks.
Projected income:
Exploration is another thrilling way of making EVE ISK, accessible even from day one. It’s less consistent in profit but a fantastic way to learn the game while experiencing the excitement of space discovery. Using scanning probes, players detect Cosmic Signatures, which can lead to different sites:
Projected income: 10M–70M ISK/hour depending on luck and ability to handle Null-sec and Wormhole sites.

Ratting is simply hunting NPC pirates for bounties and loot. Rats spawn in anomalies, belts, or near gates in lower-security systems. The lower the system’s security, the tougher (and more rewarding) the rats. Salvaging and looting can further increase income, though PvE combat skill is required.
Projected income:
Combat sites are core PvE areas in EVE. Some are easily visible anomalies, others require scanning. Signature-based combat sites are tougher but much more profitable. They are categorized as:
Expeditions escalate from Unrated complexes and typically include four chained encounters across different systems, often leading to low-sec.
Projected income:
Faction Warfare mixes PvP combat with income generation. Players enlist with one empire faction and fight over low-sec regions. Rewards come from missions, plexing (capturing complexes), or destroying enemy ships. In addition to ISK, you earn Loyalty Points (LP), which can be exchanged for ships, modules, implants, and more. Plexing, in particular, can yield extremely high profits.
Projected income:
Incursions are high-level cooperative PvE events, comparable to raids in other MMORPGs. They require organized fleets, dedicated roles, proper fittings, and teamwork. During an Incursion, Sansha’s Nation invades a constellation, and players must group together to push them back. Running incursions isn’t something you can do solo—it needs a proper corporation or group. They are challenging but rank among the most rewarding methods of farming EVE ISK.
Projected income:
Hopefully this gives you a broad perspective on how EVE ISK can be earned in EVE Online. While the nine methods listed above are the most popular, there are also other options such as Blueprint Research, selling Datacores, Moon Mining, or Manufacturing. These are less effective today but still worth exploring if you’re curious.
