In Fallout 4, there are numerous characters you can befriend and rely on during your journey through the harsh and unforgiving post-apocalyptic wasteland. Having loyal companions at your side comes with valuable advantages that can significantly improve your survival chances, so investing time into building strong relationships is always worthwhile. In this Curie companion guide, we’ll take a closer look at Curie herself, one of the notable female companions available in Fallout 4.
This guide includes minor spoilers that could impact your Fallout 4 experience. If you’d rather uncover every interaction with Curie on your own, consider bookmarking this page and returning later once you feel you’ve exhausted all possible options on your own.
Curie is a Miss Nanny–type robot whose name is actually an acronym for Contagions Vulnerability Robotic Infirmary Engineer (CVRIE). She was originally created to serve as a guardian and medical assistant within Vault 81, where her primary responsibility was to support scientists in preserving and expanding the vault’s extensive research data.

Initially, Curie functioned as a standard construction and maintenance unit. Over time, however, she was heavily modified and upgraded into a highly advanced laboratory assistant. Equipped with a surprisingly human-like personality and vast knowledge referencing historical figures such as Kant, Einstein, and Darwin, Curie played a crucial role in developing a groundbreaking cure intended to benefit humanity.
Although she can be naïve at times, Curie is consistently polite, welcoming, and genuinely kind to everyone she encounters. Her entire focus revolves around scientific discovery and collecting new information, all in pursuit of making a meaningful and positive contribution to the world.
When equipped with appropriate gear, Curie can become one of the strongest companions available in Fallout 4, making her an excellent choice if you’re searching for a reliable ally. This potential is fully realized only after she acquires her synth form, which requires completing additional quests before she can reach peak combat effectiveness.

Once transformed, Curie boasts a large health pool and impressive melee damage, making her a formidable presence in close combat. Fully maxing out her affinity unlocks her companion perk, allowing her to heal you for 100 HP whenever your health drops below 10%. This effect can activate once per in-game day. Additionally, Curie will occasionally provide you with Stimpaks when you speak with her.
The main downside is her preference for melee combat. Players who favor ranged engagements may find Curie slightly less optimal in certain situations.
That said, her charming French accent, pleasant voice, and upbeat personality make Curie a joy to travel with. Beyond combat, she adds warmth and positivity to your journey and is also one of the companions eligible for a romantic relationship.
If you’re looking to recruit Curie in Fallout 4, you’ll encounter her during the side quest Hole in the Wall inside Vault 81. This quest tasks you with finding a cure for a young boy who has been bitten by a diseased mole rat. To begin the quest, speak with Dr. Penske after donating blood to Dr. Forsythe.
You’ll need to leave the vault for at least one in-game day and potentially complete another quest to advance time before the necessary dialogue option from Dr. Penske becomes available.

During the mission, you’ll face diseased mole rats that pose a serious threat. Avoid getting bitten at all costs, as doing so will permanently reduce your maximum health by 10 HP.
After completing the quest, you’ll be given the opportunity to recruit Curie as your companion. Whether or not you choose to save the boy does not affect your ability to have Curie join you.
Like all companions in Fallout 4, Curie reacts to your actions through the Affinity system. Certain choices will increase her approval, while others may upset her or leave her indifferent. To strengthen your bond with Curie, you’ll need to earn Affinity points by acting in ways she appreciates.
Below is a list of actions that influence Curie’s affinity. Any actions not listed generally have no effect.
Reaching maximum affinity with Curie unlocks her companion perk, Combat Medic, which provides an emergency heal once per day whenever your health falls below 10%.
By default, Curie resides in her Miss Nanny robotic body. However, you’ll eventually have the option to transfer her consciousness into a synth body, giving her a human-like appearance and unlocking her full potential.
To begin this process, you must complete the main story quest Dangerous Minds and raise Curie’s affinity to a sufficiently high level. Once this happens, Curie will approach you about her desire to switch bodies, believing that a more human form will enhance her research capabilities.
To help her, you’ll need to locate Dr. Amari, a specialist in human brain research. Dr. Amari can be found at the Memory Den, an unmarked recreational establishment located in Goodneighbor in the year 2287.

For best results, avoid siding with the Institute before speaking to Dr. Amari. She harbors strong negative feelings toward the Institute and may initially refuse to help. That said, some reports suggest it may still be possible to proceed even if you’ve already sided with them. If that’s the case, follow the standard steps and see if the option remains available.
Traveling the Commonwealth with companions like Curie makes Fallout 4 feel far more immersive and engaging. Companions allow you to form meaningful relationships, unlock additional quests, and experience unique interactions throughout the game.
Bringing Curie along not only enhances combat effectiveness but also adds personality and warmth to an otherwise bleak and dangerous world. Exploring the wasteland feels far less lonely when you have a companion you can rely on and converse with, and Curie is one of the best examples of how much depth companions can bring to your Fallout 4 adventure.
