Pokemon Pokopia has officially launched on the Nintendo Switch 2, and to celebrate its release, Pokemon Go is hosting a limited-time crossover event running until March 16. During this celebration, a variety of Pokemon featured in the new Switch 2 title are appearing more frequently in the wild, including the spotlight star of the event: Ditto.
For a limited duration, a special hat-wearing version of this shapeshifting Pokemon can be encountered both in the wild and through Research rewards. However, finding one won’t be as simple as it sounds, since Ditto will be hiding in disguise as different Pokemon throughout the event. To make things easier, this guide explains how to catch Ditto and which Pokemon it may currently be mimicking.
There are a few different ways to encounter Ditto during the Pokopia Celebration event, but all of them require a bit of patience and consistency.
The most common method is by finding one in the wild. Ditto will appear across the overworld map during the event, but as always, it won’t show up in its true form. Instead, it disguises itself as other Pokemon, meaning you won’t know you’ve caught one until after the capture is complete. On top of that, the list of Pokemon Ditto can transform into has been updated specifically for this event. Still, if you keep catching everything you see, you’ll eventually run into one.
Another way to obtain Ditto is by completing the event’s two Collection Challenges. Finishing these will reward you with encounters, giving you additional chances to find Ditto without relying entirely on wild spawns.
In addition, Ditto can also be encountered through the following Timed Research tasks:
Keep in mind that both the Timed Research tasks and Collection Challenges are only available until March 16. Once the event ends, these opportunities will no longer be accessible, so make sure to complete them before the deadline to secure your Ditto encounters.

As usual, Ditto does not appear in its normal form when encountered in the wild. Instead, it takes on the appearance of other Pokemon, making it impossible to identify at first glance. Only after you successfully catch it will it reveal its true identity, which means you’ll need to catch a lot of Pokemon to increase your chances.
During the Pokopia Celebration event, Ditto can disguise itself as any of the featured Pokemon in the event pool. This gives players multiple opportunities to stumble upon one, as long as they remain active and keep catching Pokemon consistently.
Here is the full list of Pokemon that Ditto may be hiding as during this event:
Yes, the Ditto you encounter during this event not only wears a special Pokopia-themed hat or cap, but it can also appear in its shiny form. Shiny Ditto has a distinct blue color instead of its usual purple, making it easy to recognize once revealed.
It’s important to remember that while Ditto itself can be shiny, the Pokemon it is disguised as will never appear shiny. For example, if you encounter a shiny Pikachu during the event, you can be certain it is not actually a Ditto in disguise.
There is also a chance that the Ditto you catch will feature a unique Pokopia-themed background when viewed in its detail screen, adding an extra collectible element to the encounter.
The Pokopia Celebration event in Pokemon Go runs until March 16, but it’s not the only event happening this month. Several other activities are scheduled as well, including a Gigantamax Pikachu Max Battle Day.
