The Sins of the Father OSRS quest is one of the newest major additions to Old School RuneScape, offering a long and challenging storyline for adventurers who decide to take it on. After being revealed at RuneFest last year, the quest has now officially launched, giving players the chance to explore everything it brings to the game.
With that in mind, this OSRS quest walkthrough for Sins of the Father will cover:
There’s plenty to go over, so let’s begin with the requirements needed before starting the quest.
Before you can begin Sins of the Father in OSRS, several prerequisite quests must be completed. These include: Vampyre Slayer, A Taste of Hope, Darkness of Hallowvale, In Aid of the Myreque, In Search of the Myreque, Nature Spirit, Priest in Peril, and The Restless Ghost. You will also need the following skill levels: 62 Woodcutting, 60 Fletching, 56 Crafting, 52 Agility, 50 Slayer, 50 Attack, and 50 Magic.
For required items, bring an Axe, an Ivandis Flail, a Ruby, a Knife, a Chisel, and a Vyrewatch Outfit. If you do not currently have the outfit, you can buy it during the quest for 1950 coins. You will additionally need runes for Level 3 Enchant — one Cosmic Rune and five Fire Runes.
A few recommended items will make Sins of the Father more manageable. Extra coins (at least 10,000) are suggested for paying Andras for travel to Slepe. Teleports to Haunted Woods, Fenkenstrain’s Castle, or an Ectophial help with navigation. Stamina, Energy, and Antipoison Potions are strongly advised, and Morytania Legs 3 along with Drakan’s Medallion are extremely useful throughout the quest.

To begin Sins of the Father, make your way to the church in Slepe and speak to Veliaf Hurtz. You can reach Slepe by using Drakan’s Medallion to teleport to Ver Sinhaza and walking north, or by teleporting with the Ectophial and paying Andras for a boat ride. Alternatively, teleport to Port Phasmatys and travel south.
Speak with Veliaf to learn that a mysterious Sleeper Plague is affecting the townspeople, leaving them unable to wake. Your first task is to investigate the church.
Inside the church, talk to Hameln the Jester, who explains that his partner became ill after drinking at the pub. Go southeast to the pub to question Carl about the beer. When he refuses to give details, inspect the barrel behind the pub to trigger a cutscene in which Carl sneaks toward a dungeon. You must follow him without being spotted; he will occasionally turn around, forcing you to hide behind objects. If caught, you must restart the pursuit.
To avoid detection, move through the church and hide behind the northern doors while Carl passes. Continue north and use trees as cover, then hide behind the trees near the gallows in town square. Once he heads toward the graveyard, stay hidden behind the nearby plants.
When you finally reach the dungeon unnoticed, another cutscene begins and you enter a fight with Kroy. Stay close to him during the battle — he alternates between melee and magic attacks and throws vials that weaken your stats. Use Protect from Magic to reduce damage. While inside the lab, destroy the laboratory tables before leaving; otherwise you’ll be forced to return later. To locate the lab area, follow the western wall.
After the fight, head back to Veliaf, then travel to Drezel at Paterdomus. From Fenkenstrain’s Castle, move south to find Ivan Strom. A cutscene reveals Vanescula Drakan advising the Myreque to gather at the Icyene graveyard, setting up the next part of the journey.
West of Canifis, you can begin the Burgh de Rott Ramble with Ivan. Bring your Ivandis Flail before speaking to him. During the first segment, cut three vines from a tree using your Axe or Knife, combine them into a long vine, and swing across the water. Protect Ivan as three Nail Beasts attack and heal him if needed.
Next, repair a broken bridge by chopping three dead trees and using the logs to patch it. Cross the bridge and prepare for two level 119 Vampyres. Use your Ivandis Flail and keep Ivan safe from damage.
After reaching the dock, speak to Ivan to sail to the Icyene Graveyard. A cutscene plays, followed by a mausoleum puzzle. Each row’s active numbers must equal the total shown at the top. Blue and yellow tiles are usable; red flags can mark unused squares. Because numbers vary per player, there's no single solution, but start by identifying columns under 5 to eliminate possibilities.
After solving the puzzle, it is revealed that Vanstrom Klause is Safalaan’s vampyrified father. You must speak to Myreque members in this specific order: Ivan, Vertida, Kael, Radigad, Polmafi, and Veliaf. After everyone agrees to cooperate, travel to Meiyerditch.
Talk to a flying Vyrewatch to be taken to the mines. Mine 15 Daeyalt Ore and deposit them into the cart. Then speak with a Vyrewatch to exit. Search houses along the eastern side for stairs leading down and meet Safalaan. After a cutscene, fight a level 123 Mutated Bloodveld. Speak to Safalaan afterward, then search the western room’s bookshelf for a book and return it to him.
Your next challenge is Damien Leucurte, a dangerous level 204 Vampyre. Bring proper combat gear as well as Prayer, Combat, and Antipoison Potions. After preparing, return to the boat and revisit the Icyene Graveyard. Then head to Meiyerditch and purchase a Vyrewatch disguise from Trader Sven for 1950 coins.
Under Old Man Ral’s house, Polmafi Ferdygris can upgrade your disguise into a noble version. Once ready, go back to the Icyene Graveyard and speak with Vanescula Drakan, then with Veliaf in Slepe.
Enter Crombwick Manor to confront Damien Leucurte. He uses both ranged and magic attacks and spreads fire around the room that must be extinguished quickly. Antipoison is needed because he can poison you. Equip the Ivandis Flail and focus on managing his fire mechanic to make the battle far easier.
After the battle, talk to Veliaf again and return to the Icyene Graveyard to speak to Vanescula. From there, you must head back to the mines in Meiyerditch.
This time you can leave the mines without mining ore. Travel to Darkmeyer, where your Vyre Noble Outfit prevents unwanted attention. Your goal is the Arboretum, marked with a tree icon in the southeast. You will be stopped by a Vampyre guard, prompting you to find Mordan Nikazsi near the Darkmeyer entrance. Look for a building by the eastern wall with a water symbol near a furnace.
Mordan instructs you to locate slaves between the Food Store and Arboretum. Speaking to Maria Gadderanks triggers a cutscene before you enter the Arboretum itself. Inside, search the shelves for a note, then restore the water flow by adjusting the north and south valves according to the note. Once the water is flowing, chop eight Blisterwood logs and take them back to the Icyene Graveyard to speak with Veliaf and Vanescula.
Return to Old Man Ral’s house to access the underground lair. Bring your Knife and Chisel. Speak to Vertida and give him seven Blisterwood logs. He explains how to craft a Ruby Sickle. A Silver Sickle is available in a nearby box; use your Chisel to combine it with your Ruby, then enchant the resulting Ruby Sickle. Combine it with a Blisterwood log using your Knife to produce a Blisterwood Sickle. Lastly, use it on the Ivandis Flail to create the Blisterwood Flail.
Go back to the Icyene Graveyard and speak to the Myreque near the Mausoleum. Veliaf asks you to find Safalaan to the north, who confides his regrets before the final phase of Sins of the Father.
A cutscene leads directly into the final battle. Vanstrom has two phases, and you should bring strong magic-defence gear, food, potions, and a rapid ranged weapon. Protection prayers are extremely useful.
Vanstrom primarily uses magic early on. His special attacks occur unpredictably, so keep distance. After about ten normal attacks, he performs another special. One of these summons bloodvelds, which explode into acid if too close — use ranged attacks to prevent danger. Another special darkens the screen; turn away from Vanstrom to avoid heavy damage. His third special summons a blood orb that heals him; you may destroy it (taking damage) or lure Vanstrom into it so he takes the hit.
Once he enters phase two, switch to Protect from Melee and use your remaining healing supplies. Lightning bolts begin striking the arena, leaving short-lived indicators on the ground. Move quickly to avoid them. Maintain evasive movement and keep attacking to finish the fight.
When Vanstrom Klause falls, the Sins of the Father quest is complete.
Completing Sins of the Father awards two Quest Points. You also gain access to Darkmeyer and new Blisterwood weaponry. Boat travel becomes available between Slepe, Burgh de Rott, and the Icyene Graveyard. Drakan’s Medallion receives new teleport destinations, and you receive a Tome of Experience granting 15,000 XP to three skills of your choosing.
Congratulations on completing the OSRS quest Sins of the Father!
