Old School RuneScape has introduced its brand-new endgame raid boss: Yama. Found deep within the Chasm of Fire dungeon, Yama offers players the chance to earn powerful loot like the Oathplate armor, the Soulflame Horn, and an upgraded version of Death Charge. Since Yama is considered an endgame challenge, it’s essential to come well-prepared—with both top-tier gear and a decent stash of gold. This guide will walk you through everything you need to know to beat Yama quickly and efficiently.
As Yama is classified as a Demon, all Demonbane weapons are extremely effective during this fight. The top two weapons for this encounter are the Emberlight and the Purging Staff. Burning Claws can also be used effectively, but the Emberlight and Purging Staff remain superior options.
For those opting for Magic DPS, the Ancestral set is the optimal armor choice. On the other hand, melee users will perform best with the Torva set.
A powerful magic combo involves using Dark Demonbane alongside Mark of Darkness, offering a consistent and high damage output against Yama.
Make sure to bring 1 to 3 Sanfew serums or any anti-poison potions, as Yama can inflict poison status. The rest of your inventory should be filled with the best healing food available to sustain you through the lengthy fight.

While it’s possible to solo Yama, it’s highly recommended to bring a partner. The fight begins in an arena filled with glyphs of two colors—orange and black. You or your duo partner will need to step on these glyphs to survive specific lethal attacks from Yama.
During the first phase, Yama unleashes several signature moves. One such attack is signaled by either a rising purple smoke or a ring of fire emerging beneath him. If you see purple smoke, the Magic DPS player should quickly stand on a black glyph. Conversely, if the ring of fire appears, they must step on an orange glyph.
Yama alternates these attacks in a specific pattern—he’ll go either Black, Orange, Black, Orange, or the reverse, depending on the sequence of his first move.
He will also cast a wave of either black or orange flames that move inward from the edges of the arena. You must step on the glyph that matches the color of the flames to avoid taking heavy damage.
At around 60% health, Yama teleports both players into individual instances where they face the Judge of Yama. This section consists of an Agility-based lava stepping stone course. The Judge launches slow-moving fireballs that must be dodged by changing platforms. Upon reaching him, use alternating melee and magic attacks to counter his protection spells.
In the second phase, Yama gains a new mechanic. He will utter the phrase “Veni estella infernus” toward the player currently holding his aggro. At this moment, the player nearest to an orange glyph must step on it to avoid instant death.
His other attacks are telegraphed by visual cues: falling flames require you to use Protect from Magic, while descending shadows call for Protection from Ranged. These attacks continue to pressure the team while managing positioning on glyphs.
Once Yama is brought down to 30% health, he initiates another teleport sequence with the same Judge of Yama mechanics. Take this time to recover HP, recharge your special attack bars, and prepare for the final showdown.
The final phase introduces a new threat—void flares. These explosive orbs spawn in the arena and detonate after 10 seconds. If left untouched, they will deal massive damage to players and simultaneously heal Yama. The player equipped with the Purging Staff should utilize its special attack to destroy these flares instantly.
Yama will also begin summoning lines of three fireballs aimed toward your position. When this attack is activated, move perpendicular to the line to avoid damage. The two outer fireballs will explode in an hourglass pattern, so proper movement is key to surviving.
By staying coordinated and using the right gear, you can efficiently bring down Yama and claim some of the best loot available in OSRS right now.
