In Act 2 of Path of Exile 2, players venture into the Vastiri Desert, continuing their pursuit of the Beast of Corruption. This journey ultimately leads to a confrontation with Jamanra, the Risen King. However, just as victory seems within reach, Jamanra escapes into the depths of the desert, prompting players to chase him further.
Before you can delve deeper into the desert to track him down, you'll need to complete a pivotal quest: assembling the Horn of Orbala. This essential artifact allows you to clear the sandstorms and traverse the harsh desert environment.
To construct the Horn of Orbala, you'll need to gather its scattered components across various quests. One of the most significant tasks involves completing the City of Seven Waters quest, where you must retrieve the Essence of Water, a critical component of the Horn. During this mission, you will face Azarian, the Forsaken Son, a formidable opponent. If you’re looking for strategies to defeat Azarian and proceed with your mission, this guide has you covered.
In Act 2, players traverse through Keth, the Lost City, and then continue to the Buried Shrines. Deep within the Shrines, Azarian can be found guarding the Water Goddess.
The battle with Azarian takes place in a square arena, with massive braziers positioned at each corner. These braziers play a critical role in the fight—any attack that hits them causes an explosion, spreading fire across that corner of the arena. The flames persist for some time, creating hazardous zones that can deal consistent damage.
If all four braziers are destroyed, the arena becomes engulfed in fire, leaving only a small safe zone at the center. However, this "safe zone" also puts players in direct range of Azarian’s relentless attacks, making positioning a vital aspect of the fight.
To minimize the arena's hazards, avoid accidentally hitting the braziers during the battle. Keeping the fight confined to the edges without triggering these explosions can greatly improve your chances of survival.
Azarian has a diverse set of attacks designed to pressure and overwhelm players:
Flaming Advance
Azarian spins his weapon and charges in a straight line, inflicting damage with each rotation. A brief charge animation signals this move, allowing you time to evade.
Fireball Toss
He drives his arm into the ground, unleashing fireballs in a cone-shaped spread. These fireballs often form a temporary wall of fire, restricting player movement.
Flame Shot
Azarian pulls back his arm before launching a burst of fireballs in a cone formation.
Flame Slam
He raises his arm and slams it down, creating two fiery cones in front of him. Azarian may slightly adjust his aim during this move, so delay your dodge until the last moment to avoid being hit.
Throughout the battle, Azarian cycles through these attacks. The Flame Slam deals the most significant damage and is the hardest to dodge, making it essential to learn its timing.
The arena’s hazards and Azarian’s attacks make fire resistance crucial. Using POE 2 Currency to upgrade your equipment, particularly with fire-resistant modifiers, is a smart move. A Ruby Charm can significantly mitigate fire damage, improving your survivability. Additionally, enhancing charms using a POE 2 Regal Orb can increase their rarity and effectiveness, giving you an edge in this challenging encounter.
Ranged Builds
Ranged characters have the advantage of maintaining distance, reducing the risk of direct contact with Azarian. However, the spread of fire from the braziers may force you into the arena's center, where Azarian’s attacks are most concentrated. Balancing mobility with attack opportunities is key.
Melee Builds
Melee characters face unique challenges, as they must stay close to Azarian to deal damage. His Flaming Advance can drag you into fire zones, making positioning and timing crucial. Prepare for a dynamic battle requiring quick reflexes and strategic movement.
The key to defeating Azarian lies in observation and practice. Study his attack patterns, learn their timings, and anticipate his movements. Over time, you’ll become adept at dodging his most dangerous abilities and identifying windows for counterattacks.
By equipping yourself with the right gear, maximizing fire resistance, and refining your strategy, you’ll eventually overcome this challenging foe. With Azarian defeated, you can claim the Essence of Water and continue your journey to assemble the Horn of Orbala, bringing you one step closer to tracking down Jamanra in the Vastiri Desert.
