Uma Musume: Pretty Derby can feel confusing at first, especially since the game doesn’t fully explain how the training mechanics work or how you can raise your stats effectively. If your goal is to claim victory in the URA Finale and push your favorite horse girl into A-tier rankings, this guide will walk you through the best ways to optimize training and secure that Finale Champion title.

The support deck you assign to your trainee plays a critical role in Uma Musume: Pretty Derby, as it directly affects how many stat points you gain per training attempt. When you establish maximum support with a chosen support card, you unlock Friendship Training whenever they appear in the related training option, drastically improving your results.
For instance, the Super Creek [Piece of Mind] support card is a Stamina type card. It has a passive effect that increases her likelihood of showing up at the Stamina training spot. Once you reach full Friendship with her, every time you perform Stamina training where she’s present, she’ll activate Friendship Training for an even bigger stat boost.
During your first two goal phases, always prioritize maxing out friendships with your support cards as quickly as possible. Doing so ensures that when you start approaching the G1 and URA Finale races, you’ll already be benefiting from significantly enhanced training gains.
After your support card friendships are at their peak, you can focus on efficiently raising your trainee’s stats. To maximize performance, follow this priority order:
Speed > Power > Stamina > Wit > Guts
Speed is naturally the most important, but Power and Stamina also play major roles. Power determines how quickly your trainee accelerates to top speed and helps break away from groups to secure better positioning. Stamina prevents fatigue from slowing down your runner mid-race.
Each race distance has an underlying Stamina requirement. Once you reach that hidden threshold, there’s no need to invest additional points into Stamina for that race type.
| Sprint | 150 Stamina |
| Mile | 300 Stamina |
| Medium | 400 Stamina + 1 stamina recovery skill |
| 600 | 500+ Stamina + 1 gold stamina recovery skill |
Wit influences the probability of skills activating during races. Currently, the best stopping point is around 300 Wit, which gives approximately a 70% chance of skill triggers. Beyond 300, the returns diminish heavily. Training Wit also restores a small amount of Energy instead of reducing it, which makes it a unique training option.
Guts has very limited utility at the moment, as it only lowers the stamina drain during races. This stat is expected to get buffs in the future, but right now it’s best to skip focusing on it entirely.
Maintaining Energy is crucial when working toward high stat builds since you need to keep up with rivals over the long career path. A failed training session can ruin a run, as you lose the turn, drop your trainee’s mood, and may even suffer an injury that forces you into the Infirmary for another wasted turn.
When faced with event dialogue choices, always select the option that restores Energy over the ones that offer a few extra stat points or skill points. This strategy is especially helpful on New Year’s Eve, when the second option grants +20 Energy. The long-term value of Energy far outweighs the small stat gains from event alternatives, as training sessions provide much higher returns overall.
Skills often determine whether your trainee secures victory or falls behind. Skills are divided into four categories: stamina regeneration, speed/velocity boosts, debuffs, and stat increases. Choosing the correct skill set tailored to your runner’s specialty is the key to success in the URA Finale.
For example, if your trainee focuses on a particular racing style such as End Chaser or Front Runner, select skills tagged for that playstyle. Gold skills are especially valuable since they don’t require prerequisites like race distance or style to activate. This makes them versatile and consistently effective tools in building a winning horse.
With the right balance of friendship, stat prioritization, energy management, and skill selection, you’ll be well prepared to dominate the URA Finale and achieve those coveted A-tier rankings with your favorite horse girl.
