Housing Leveling determines how much you can build and customize in WoW, making it easier to manage your budget, plan layouts, and decide when it makes sense to invest additional time or gold.
Key takeaways
Housing leveling is a major part of player housing progression in World of Warcraft, influencing how much freedom you have when building and customizing your home. Knowing your Housing level helps you plan layouts more effectively, control spending, and decide when it is worthwhile to put more time or gold into progressing further.

Housing levels determine how much flexibility you have when customizing your home. They mainly affect two important systems: the Interior Decor budget and the Room Placement budget, which decide how many items and rooms you are able to place.
On top of that, certain levels also unlock additional room types, giving you more options for expanding and shaping your layout. You can always view your current level directly in the Housing dashboard, which makes it simple to track your progress and plan how to level up your Housing level.

Tip: To make progress easier to track, the Home Bound addon is highly recommended. It helps you keep an eye on unlocked decor, legacy sources, and vendors that offer extra pieces.
There are currently two main ways to increase your level: completing Housing Endeavours and unlocking decor. However, Housing Endeavours are not available yet and are expected to arrive in Midnight, so for now the entire system revolves around decor unlocks.
At the moment, unlocking decor is the only active way to level up your Player Housing level, and in practice, much of it comes from simply playing the game. Decor can be obtained through legacy content, Legion Remix, and current patch activities, all of which contribute to your overall housing progression.
Note: You will probably gain a few levels before you even begin intentionally collecting decor. That is because the system tracks your overall housing progress, which can be influenced by achievements, crafted decor, completed feats, and other progression milestones.
Because of that, your Housing level can rise naturally while you play.
Although this method is slower, it is dependable and steadily improves your available decor and placement budget. The fastest way to level up Housing is through crafting decor, whether you make the items yourself or buy them from the Auction House.
That said, crafting has its own grind, especially because of Lumber farming, which can become a major bottleneck since Lumber cannot currently be bought on the Auction House.
The short answer is that the amount you need will vary from player to player. For many people, reaching level 4 or 5 may already be enough. A solid general rule is to fully use your current decor and room budget first, then decide whether you actually need to push your Housing level any higher.

The available Decor budget scales with your Housing level, beginning at 910 interior decor points at level 1 and increasing progressively up to 4340 interior decor points by level 9. The exterior decor budget starts at 200 and expands at specific level milestones.
The fastest way to level up Housing is by focusing on decor unlocks, whether through active gameplay, crafting large amounts of decor, or purchasing items from the Auction House to quickly boost progression in Midnight.
Housing Endeavours are a planned monthly feature that has not yet been released in-game. They are expected to function similarly to the Trading Post, providing simple tasks that reward players with decor unlocks and contribute toward Housing level progression.
