Alistar Support performs best with a build featuring Celestial Opposition, Boots of Swiftness, Locket of the Iron Solari, Zeke's Convergence, and Knight's Vow. The most effective rune setup for Alistar Support includes Aftershock, Font of Life, Bone Plating, and Unflinching in the primary tree, paired with Cosmic Insight and Hextech Flashtraption in the secondary tree.
During the laning phase, stand close to your ADC at all times. With good positioning, you can threaten an engage onto the enemy even if you don’t intend to engage. Stand next to or slightly in front of them at all times. Look to set up death bushes before a major objective like the Dragon or Baron spawns. Sit inside a bush and ambush the enemy when they walk past with your W > Q combo. Once an enemy is dead, take the objective. Once you’ve engaged in a team fight, retreat and protect your ADC. Do not leave them hanging alone against the enemy frontline. Your goal is to engage and then fall back to help them.
For the most popular Alistar Support build, take Flash and Ignite as your Summoner Spells. For runes, pick Aftershock as your keystone, followed by Font of Life, Bone Plating, and Unflinching in the primary tree, with Cosmic Insight and Hextech Flashtraption in the secondary tree. For rune shards, take Ability Haste in offense, Health Scaling in flex, and Health Scaling in defense, depending on the matchup. Start with Celestial Opposition, followed by Boots of Swiftness and Locket of the Iron Solari. Finish with Zeke's Convergence, Knight's Vow, and Vigilant Wardstone. Stick to the ability max order of Q - W - E.
If you're looking for an alternative build, take Flash and Ignite as your Summoner Spells. Use Phase Rush as your keystone, with Nimbus Cloak, Celerity, and Waterwalking in the primary tree, and Cosmic Insight and Hextech Flashtraption in the secondary tree. For rune shards, take Ability Haste, Health Scaling, and Health Scaling. Begin with Celestial Opposition, followed by Boots of Swiftness and Locket of the Iron Solari. Finish with Zeke's Convergence, Knight's Vow, and Vigilant Wardstone. Keep the ability max order as Q - W - E.
If you want to try an off-meta Alistar Support build, take Flash and Ignite as your Summoner Spells. Use Glacial Augment as your keystone, with Hextech Flashtraption, Biscuit Delivery, and Cosmic Insight in the primary tree, and Bone Plating with Unflinching in the secondary tree. For rune shards, use Ability Haste, Health Scaling, and Health Scaling. Start with Celestial Opposition, followed by Symbiotic Soles and Locket of the Iron Solari. Finish with Knight's Vow, Thornmail, and Vigilant Wardstone. The ability max order remains Q - W - E.
Depending on your game context, matchup, and enemy champions, you may want to adjust your items or runes. Carefully consider your team composition, the enemy team, and the game state when planning your Alistar build. For example, if facing an opponent with high Magic damage, you may want to consider Magic Resist in your rune shards, or take Armor if you need more resistance against physical damage.
