For those trying to survive topside in the hostile world of Arc Raiders, you’ll need to fight smart, scavenge efficiently, and craft reliable gear to stand a chance against the ARC. While most items currently found in Arc Raiders serve a clear purpose, there are a few materials that feel as though they exist purely to be recycled or sold for quick cash.
One such item is the Ion Sputter, which arrived alongside the Stella Montis map. Even though Ion Sputters don’t appear to have an immediate use right now, it’s probably wise to stash a few away. Items like this have a habit of becoming important later, whether through a newly added quest or as a required crafting component. Below is everything you need to know about where to find Ion Sputters and what they’re currently used for.

Unlike many other materials in Arc Raiders, Ion Sputters seem to be exclusive to the Stella Montis map. While this could change in a future update, every Ion Sputter I’ve come across so far has been looted from this specific location. Because of that, you’ll want to focus all of your searching on Stella Montis if you’re trying to track these down.
The best places to look on Stella Montis are:
Assembly and Assembly Workshops are by far the most reliable areas for finding Ion Sputters. In particular, you should concentrate on the rooms along the northern side of Assembly, with extra attention paid to the second-floor control rooms. The drawers in these rooms appear to have the highest chance of spawning Ion Sputters, and there’s also a conveniently placed hatch nearby that makes for a quick escape if things get dangerous.

Another location where players have reported success is the Assembly Workshop area in the northwestern section of Stella Montis. While I personally haven’t had consistent luck finding Ion Sputters there, my squadmates often seem to walk away with one or two after looting this spot. Much like Medical, Assembly Workshops offers a dense concentration of lootable containers, which naturally boosts your odds of finding Epic-quality materials.
As for what the Ion Sputter is actually used for at the moment, the answer is surprisingly simple: nothing. Right now, it isn’t connected to any quest objectives, crafting recipes, or Expedition Project requirements. That said, it’s far from worthless. You can sell an Ion Sputter for a hefty 6,000 coins, or dismantle it to receive four Voltage Converters and one Exodus Module.
Both of those materials are essential for crafting higher-end equipment, including items like Heavy Shields or the powerful Bobcat submachine gun. So even if Ion Sputters don’t have a dedicated use yet, they’re still well worth picking up whenever you find one while playing through Stella Montis under the gamer choice banner.
